School Projects
Buzzing About Bees!
St James' C of E Primary have welcomed 3 bee hives to their school, and pupils are learning about the importance of pollinators and their role in ecosystems! The students have been able to get involved, become immersed in local wildlife, and improve their understanding of the value of nature.
The school managed to produce and sell 150 jars of honey to parents, with the profits funding future environmental projects!
Gardening and Local Produce
Pupils at St James' C of E Primary have also been growing their own sun flowers and sweet peas, as well as various other plants and vegetables in the school's polytunnel, which was installed in 2019. This has been a wonderful experience for children to learn practical gardening skills, and the importance of home grown produce for sustainability. The students have grown their own potatoes, onions, cabbages, lettuce, radishes, peppers, peas, garlic, broad beans, shallots, and tomatos to sell to parents!
Sustainable Crafts
Year 3 pupils at Clayton-Le-Woods Primary School have been using recycled card, news papers and magazines to papier mache Christmas baubles! They hope to sell their creations at the school fair, where they can also highlight the importance of recycling, reducing waste and sustainability.
Upcycling Crafts
Pupils at Clayton-Le-Woods have taken part in an Upcycling Challenge, led by the Pupil's Parliment! Their goal was to tranform recyclable materials into creative works of art, for a recycled art gallery! This educated the students on the impacts of waste and pollution, whilst promoting responsible habits to contribute to a cleaner and greener future.
