Tree planting

Trees in Chorley

Together with our partners, landowners and residents, we have successfully planted over 180,000 trees in Chorley – which is more than one for every resident! Read our Emergency Tree Plan for more information on our tree planting project.

As part of our commitment to improving the environment in Chorley, we held a tree giveaway as part of our planting project, where residents could collect a tree for free to plant in their garden.

At the moment, we are not planning to organise another tree giveaway as we are focusing on looking after the trees that have been planted! However, we are continuing to plant a small number each year within our parks and open spaces where appropriate. We will update you here if anything changes!

Your saplings

We now have a tree nursery that is waiting to be filled at The Willows, Eaves Green Chorley, PR7 3RQ.

We are looking for native trees of local provenance, to plant in Yarrow Valley Country Park to enhance our woodlands. If you have any small native saplings that need to be planted, please head to the tree nursery in November 2025, take a trowel, and plant it in the raised beds. When it is big enough, it will then be translocated to use for Chorley’s restoration projects.

We are primarily looking for hazel, oak, hawthorn, yew, holly, elder, blackthorn, silver birch and field maple saplings.
